Banjara Market in Gurugram is one of the best places to shop home decor items like furniture, photo frames, antiques, wall hangings, idols, mirrors, and festive decor items. Once you step into this world of vibrant carpentry and woodwork, you'll be amazed at how much you can get here and that too for a minimal price! Of course, you have to bargain! One needs to spend time here because that's how you'll chance upon the lovely treasures this furniture heaven has to offer.

Banjara is a tribe which belongs to the state of Rajasthan. As the name explains, these people are the wanderers & they sell their cultural products. The decorative items are imported from the factories of Jodhpur. The tribe has settled for more than 15 years, and they do not have any other source of income other than this. "During the rainy season, the area gets flooded, and it is almost impossible for us to do business which results in a great loss and difficulty in survival as these temporary housing gets partially drowned in the rainwater", says a shop owner at Banjara Market.

The Banjaras are living in an informal settlement with the fear of being displaced whenever the administration decides to. There are over 200 such shops located in Banjara market selling almost similar things which makes the competition much higher and the survival much difficult as because each shop belongs feeds at least 15 people.
The tribe lives under their terms and follow traditions and beliefs of their motherland where they do not cook food under gas stove but can only use "Chulha."
The residents don't have access to necessary facilities like access to clean drinking water, sanitation and children do not have access to educational facilities.
Here, despite the challenges in living conditions, few families are encouraging the girls from their family to study and prosper. One such girl is Sangeeta Rajput. She says "I feel very much fortunate as I am getting access to education, I try hard each day to give my best and make my parents proud. Also, I am very much thankful to my brother, who has encouraged and supported me in my studies".

Sangeeta dreams of becoming a software engineer, she even tells about her hobbies, interests and how she got admission in The Rise International School with the help of her teacher. Further, she explains about the support that she gets from her teachers and friends in the school. She is grateful to her teachers' constant support.
